I've owned piggies only since last January of 1999. We got involved with them because of my son's Pre-school teacher. She had two piggies that were her pets that she would bring to school with her and it turned out that Sweet Pea, who was sold to her by the all famous PetCo (ummpphh), was a boy not a girl, duh??? lol Well, that led Pumpkin to being pregnant and I just loved little Pumpkin and so did my son so we wanted one of her babies but sadly she only had two and one died at birth and the teacher kept the other one. Well that started the search for our own guinea pigs, we were very disappointed that we would not be getting one of Pumpkin's babies. We searched high and low, didn't know much about them so I got on the internet and found the digest and all kinds of wonderful sites and learned so much about them so quickly it's amazing! I couldn't find a breeder at the time, now I know several, lol We did locate an individual pet store in a nearby town who just had two 8 week old american golden agouti's brought in the day before so off we went and that was the start of our 5 piggies. They are Coco and Meeko, sisters who are almost identical except Meeko has a golden stripe on her nose. That was on January 10th of 1999 and they will be a year old sometime in November. Then on Valentine's day of 1999 we were at the feed store where we buy their shavings and pellets and my husband and I fell in love with a little Himilayan sow. We named her Valentine and she turned out to be pregnant when we bought her. She had two healthy little babies, a sow that we kept, named Kiwi (the author of the Lone Star Pignic article) and a boar that my mother took and named Jake. This is how I turned my mother in to a slave, lol She now had three piggies of her own. Then last but not least I got a sweet little teddy baby girl for my birthday in October from a very nice lady, that I met over the digest and she also came to the pignic. So, now I'm at five girls and loving them all! We also have four dogs and did have a bunny named Calico but sadly she went to the rainbow bridge in July after having her for six years.
Warm wheeks,
